NEWS 2003 UPDATE - December 14, 2003 - There has finally been a Charlie sighting! Everyone's favorite brooding bassist was spotted at the United vs. City game yesterday. Apparently, he was seen at Old Trafford supporting his team in a very vocal and boisterous fashion. After the match, there was evidently a bit of a kerfuffle between Charlie and a City fan, which required the aid of several onlookers to break up. Meep? UPDATE - November 17, 2003 - Well, fellow fans, there is still not much to report. The results of the "Find Charlie" contest were not fruitful. Of the letters and sightings that came in, none could be verified. We will continue to keep you updated. UPDATE - October 31, 2003 - HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!! Since there has been no real DS news since the Megaphone article from earlier this year, we have little to report in this update. However, the number one question on many fans' lips is "Where is Charlie?" The band's charismatic and occasionally troubled bassist has been MIA for several months. He was mysteriously not in attendance at Patrick's wedding. So, in order to drum up some news, this site is offering up a contest of sorts. A signed copy of the Oil Change Tour Book will be given to the first person to provide substantiated information regarding Charlie's location in recent months. Remember fans, we need some proof. Doesn't count if your sister's cousin's roommate saw someone who looked like him. But let's not get carried away, shall we? We don't want to hear about one of you being arrested for climbing over Charlie's fence. UPDATE - August 20, 2003 - No news is good news, yeah? Sure. It just doesn't make for very entertaining websiteliness. What are a couple of tragic fangirls to do? We can't just start making shit up, can we? Well, we could, but then we'd be no better than the rags we consciously avoid looking at while in the check-out line. So, here's what we know to be true: Liam is playing Mr. Mom down under, Patrick and Melissa continue to design and build their dream home in Manchester, and Sinjin is working on the soundtrack to an indie film directed by an old schoolmate. And, Charlie? Well, that's why we said no news is good news. Yeah? UPDATE - July 24, 2003 - Those of you who have been with this website from the beginning know that we are loathe to report any news that has not been verified from reliable sources. Having said that, we understand that many fans have been concerned about Charlie's well being. We have finally had confirmation from several independent sources that Charlie was arrested on July 6th for possession of an illegal narcotic. Of course we have no way of knowing what he and his family and the rest of the band are going through at this time, but we respect their right to privacy and hope that he is getting whatever help he needs. UPDATE - June 11, 2003 - Another Charlie sighting, but under far less glamorous circumstances this time around. Sources report he was treated at the A+E department of St. Thomas' Hospital, near Knightsbridge, on Monday. Doctors released him after a few hours and the reason for his emergency visit is unclear. We hope that he is feeling better now and well on the road to recovery. Hang in there Charlie. We miss you. UPDATE - May 31, 2003 - *crickets* What's that sound? Oh yes, it's the sound of no DriveSHAFT news. It's going to be a long, lonely summer without the boys on tour. After all, we were planning on spending this summer the same way we spent much of last summer: rocking out in a most hardcore fashion to the dulcet tones of our favorite fab four. We're keeping our fingers crossed in the hope that there will be good news by way of a new recording contract in the very near future. UPDATE - April 21, 2003 - Mark your calendars people, for on the twentieth day of the fourth month of 2003, it was reported that the elusive creature known as Charlie Pace (bassiest funkiest) had been sighted. A couple of keen-eyed clubgoers spotted him in what has long been assumed to be his natural habitat: London's most exclusive hot spots; namely, Chinawhite and Attica. Will it be another several months before he shows himself again? Only time will tell... UPDATE - April 3, 2003 - Finally, some official news! DriveSHAFT was mentioned in a small events blurb in Megaphone Magazine. The article reported (as previously mentioned here on STOF) that Patrick wed his long-term girlfriend Melissa earlier this year. It also mentioned that Liam had moved to Australia with his new wife and young daughter. And, after experiencing some "quiet alone time", Sinjin has been working on his first solo album, tentatively titled Tree Cheese. The article did not mention what Charlie has been up to. With all of the band members scattered all over the globe (and perhaps even beyond, in some cases), there has been a lot of speculation that DriveSHAFT has called it quits. While the article and many fans are murmuring the words "break up", we here at STOF are remaining hopeful for a new contract and album. UPDATE - March 17, 2003 - Happy St. Patrick's Day! We're sorry that there haven't been any substantial updates here on STOF in the past few months. We don't like spreading rumors and innuendo, and unfortunately, that's the only sort of information we've been hearing lately. We can only imagine how difficult things have been for the band since they were released from their record contract last year. We'll be raising a Guinness (or three) to the boys tonight. Hopefully we'll have some real news to report sooner rather than later. UPDATE - February 26, 2003 - According to a mention in this week's People Magazine, Patrick Gleason married his girlfriend of 3 years in a private ceremony on February 8, 2003. The couple was wed in St. Wilfrid's Church in his hometown of Manchester. Sinjin attended the wedding, but Charlie and Liam were not present. The newlyweds are said to be vacationing in Greece. UPDATE - January 9, 2003 - Hope everyone had a rockin' New Year's, but without the sort of trouble a certain saucy bassist has been getting into. According to several reliable sources, Charlie celebrated the New Year in his usual exuberant manner, which led to him being stopped at a random police checkpoint. We know that no charges were filed, but according to a separate source, Charlie was unable to continue driving home. Newer News Entries | Earlier News Entries |
