NEWS 2002 UPDATE - December 15, 2002 - Happy Holidays to DriveSHAFT fans and the band themselves! We hope that you all have a safe and happy holiday season, and that the guys are enjoying themselves, wherever they all may be. Hope to see you in 2003! UPDATE - November 18, 2002 - Congratulations to Liam and Karen Pace, who tied the knot in Manchester earlier this month. Evidently, the couple plan to relocate to Karen's home of Sydney, Australia. We're not sure how soon this will take place, and how it will affect the future of DriveSHAFT, but we are eternal optimists and hope that by this time next year, the band will be back with a new record and tour. UPDATE - October 31, 2002 - Remember what you were doing this time two years ago? We do. (What WE were doing, not you, you silly bint!) Ah yes, Halloween 2000, that was the year that DriveSHAFT met Reservoir Dogs. They played the Fillmore in San Francisco and the entire band and road crew came onstage dressed in black suits and skinny ties. We never did find out who was meant to be Mr. Pink. Good times... UPDATE - October 5, 2002 - Well it's been three months since the band was dropped from their label and aside from the initial plans to "take a break and chill", we've no idea what the boys have been up to. The silence coming from the DriveSHAFT camp is breeding rumors that grow more outrageous by the week. We realize that it is human nature to be curious about what they've been up to recently, especially since official statements have been few and far between. And it's not helping that the gossip rags have been churning out unsubstantiated rumors about the band splitting. But until we hear from the guys themselves, let's try to keep the freak-outs to a minimum, yeah? UPDATE - September 2, 2002 - Happy Labor Day, If Labor Day Was, In Fact, A Holiday That One Celebrated By Sending Electronic Salutations Across The World, Which Of Course It Is Not, But Really We Were Just Desperate For Something Of Interest To Post Due To A Severe Lack Of Information Of The DriveSHAFT Variety. UPDATE - August 1, 2002 - For those of you who weren't able to grab a DS t-shirt on the last tour (before it was unceremoniously cancelled), we've cooked up some logos so you can rock it DIY stylie. Since all band merchandising seems to be on hold, this might be your last chance for a while to announce your hardcore DriveSHAFTiness through fashion. Just do us all (and yourself) a favor and don't wear it to any future shows that might pop up. Don't be that guy!! Check out the Swag Page to snag a logo! UPDATE - July 23, 2002 - It seems that Sinjin has already decided what to do with his down time. In a recent email he told us, "The universe is clearly trying to tell me to go in the opposite direction of where I was headed. Evidently, I need to spend more time staying very still. Surrounded by absolute silence." Knowing Sinjin, that means on the top of a mountain in a monastery in Tibet. Or something. Happy Stillness, brother! UPDATE - July 13, 2002 - We wish the rumor was just a really bad joke but sadly, it is not. DriveSHAFT has indeed been dropped from its new "label". Which means that the remainder of the Oil Change tour has been cancelled (slow ticket sales were cited as the reason). We're sure this is a difficult time for the band, and we would like them to know that we are still behind them 100% and will support them wherever their paths may lead. UPDATE - July 1, 2002 - Rhythm Records has been bought out by the FYT recording and publishing conglomerate. This means that several of the less-successful bands on their roster are in danger of being dropped. Unfortunately, DriveSHAFT is among those on the chopping block. Since the only thing those corporate whores care about is the bottom line, and DS is not the cash cow it was a few years ago, we are afraid that their days at RR are numbered. It remains to be seen what this means for their future. It could just mean less money for the promotion of Oil Change. Worst-case scenario, the band gets dropped from the label and the plans for the next leg of the OC tour are scaled down or cancelled all together. We will let you know as soon as we hear anything. UPDATE - June 22, 2002 - The Euro tour has wrapped up and the band is taking a couple of weeks off before hitting North America. So far, sales of Oil Change have not quite lived up to that of its predecessor, but it seems that everyone was waiting for DriveSHAFT Part Two. We are happy that the boys did not sell out and record a copycat album in a ploy to sell a squajillion records. They need to grow as artists, and if they lose some of the teenybopper radio fans along the way, then so be it. /not-so-unbiased rant. UPDATE - June 4, 2002 - Oil Change's third single, "Wrong Way", comes out today. We know we sound like a broken record, but please call your local radio station to request this song (in addition to buying it, natch). While we all love this album, it hasn't performed as well as the record company, and band, had hoped. So we need to do everything we can to get the word out that DriveSHAFT still has a large (and VOCAL) fanbase. We're thinking of organizing a "street team" so that all our efforts can be coordinated. Send us an email if you're interested in helping out! UPDATE - May 31, 2002 - Congrats to new parents Liam Pace and Karen Murphy, who welcomed their daughter Megan into the world earlier this month. We're sure that Papa Liam and Uncle Charlie are anxious to return home next month. And not just because of DS's sold-out homecoming gig! UPDATE - May 19, 2002 - Anna, a German DriveSHAFT fan from back in the day, tells us that she saw the band bar-hopping after last night's gig at Alter Schlachthof Konzerte in Dresden. She ran into Sinjin at Parkhotel, who then invited her to join him at Klax Nachtbar, where they ran into the Pace brothers, who, in Anna's words, were "mixing it up a bit". Ah, boys will be boys, won't they? UPDATE - May 6, 2002 - This site can now boast a European office. Well, not so much an office as a lovely pair of free-lance Swedish reporters. Go to the Fan Encounters Page to see their review of the Stockholm show. Welcome, Lars and Ulrika! UPDATE - April 16, 2002 - The second single from Oil Change, "Merge", has been released to coincide with the launch of the European leg of the tour. Since "Out of Time" didn't stay on the charts for as long as we thought it would have (and SHOULD have), we are hoping that "Merge" will break it open for DriveSHAFT and remind people why they fell in love with the band in the first place. UPDATE - April 4, 2002 - Tour dates have finally been announced! We think what the world needs now (besides love, sweet love) is DEFINITELY a dose of some good old live music. It feeds the soul, don't you know? Luckily for us, our favorite four providers of that good and tasty rock music will soon be coming to a town near you. UPDATE - March 31, 2002 -- What's that old saying, something like, "rock critics are just frustrated musicians"? I think I've just read something by the most frustrated musician ever to pick up a poison pen to write a record review. Seriously, I'm not even sure that this dude even listened to the new album. We're going to post it anyway, just to show how ridiculous the media can get. I mean, seriously. He can't find anything better to criticize than the band's choice of record title? Check out the hatchet job on the Press Page. UPDATE - March 27, 2002 - The Oil Change cover and liner notes are now up on the Discography Page. UPDATE - March 26, 2002 - After many fits and starts, DriveSHAFT's second album, Oil Change, hits stores today. Get your copy in the next few days, so we can have a huge first week of sales and prove the wankers who said that DS was just a flash in the pan very very wrong. The tour should be starting in the next month or so, and we will post the dates as soon as we get them. UPDATE - March 3, 2002 - More great news coming from DriveSHAFT-land! Congratulations to Liam and his lady Karen, who are expecting their first child later this year. New album, new tour, new baby. WOW! UPDATE - February 26, 2002 - You know you love "Out of Time". And sure, it's cool to listen to it on your computer or CD player. But wouldn't you rather get a buzz from hearing it on your local radio station? Well, you can...IF YOU CALL THEM and let them know you're dying to hear it. You know it kicks ass. Now we want everyone else in the world to know it as well. #19 on the charts is nothing to sneeze at, but we know it can do better. So get dialing! (And buying! Makes a great St. Patrick's Day gift! Have we mentioned the green vinyl twelve inch??) UPDATE - February 19, 2002 - "Out of Time" is out today. We know you've probably already downloaded it, but be a peach and pick it up at your local record shop. That way, The Man knows how many of you still love DriveSHAFT! And for all you freaky collectors out there (present company included), they've released this single on CD AND special limited edition green vinyl. Come on, you know you cannot resist the limited edition green vinyl! UPDATE - February 1, 2002 - It's official! The new album is titled Oil Change. We are totally not even kidding. The first single will be "Only You Can Flush My Wiper Fluid, Baby". Okay, we actually are kidding about that one. The first single is really called "Out of Time". We believe this is a reworked version of that "new" song they were playing toward the end of the last tour that the fans had taken to calling "The One With The Wicked Guitar Solo". We certainly hope so, because if it is, it's going to burn up the charts. The single will be released on February 19, with the album hitting stores on March 26. Mark your calendars! UPDATE - January 21, 2002 - This update brings news from the local tabloid rag, which has a small gossipy blurb about Liam. Has DriveSHAFT wild child Liam actually settled down? The self-professed lifelong bachelor has been spotted with Karen Murphy, one of the many women that accompany Liam on his nights out. Has Liam found the Ms. Right or yet another Ms. Right Now? A better question would be is this mag full of information or just full of crap? UPDATE - January 7, 2002 - Now THIS is the way to start a new year, with news of the next DS album. Thank you boys, for giving us the first sign that 2002 will not suck! (Marie's grandma will be so relieved.) The grapevine reports that the band has recently put the finishing touches on their second studio album and is shooting for a February release. We urge you to cross all available extremities. UPDATE - January 1, 2002 - In the words of Marie's inimitable grandma, "Happy New Year. Let's hope this one doesn't suck!" Yes, let's. Newer News Entries | Earlier News Entries |
