The City Park is alight tonight with dozens of tiny
points of hope. Two dozen, to be exact, as the local chapter of the
DriveSHAFT Fan Association meets in a little used gazebo at the
center of the Park.
They are holding vigil for Charlie Pace, DriveSHAFT's bassist and a
man the world barely had a chance to know before he disappeared when
Oceanic Flight 815 fell off the radar during a routine flight from
Sydney to Los Angeles just over a month ago. Exhaustive searches
have turned up no sign of the doomed flight of its passengers, but
Fan Club members refuse to give up hope. They stand in ones and
groups, clutching white candles and murmuring together.
The Club, which, at its peak had over 250 members, dwindles now to a
mere 23.
"We're the real fans," says Kima Dawson, club President and charter
member. "We know that Charlie will be found alive."
The Club has even started a fund by auctioning off DriveSHAFT
merchandise and even donating their own money to fund private
searchers who will continue even after others have quit.
"We're doing all we can." Dawson says. "Hopefully, it's enough."
